      • residents tied to land, captive to exposures
    • Combinations of exposures —
      • food, water consumption: animals studies confirmed bioaccumulation of contaminants in food chain
      • occupational: many former miners live in area
    • Socioeconomic status —
      • lower incomes, existing health conditions —> susceptibility
